Demysitfying The Health Care Maze

Taking care of a vulnerable population often means you come up against the complications of our health care system. If the person you’re helping doesn’t have adequate health insurance or a permanent medical home, it can be difficult for them to access the health care that they need.

The South Metro Health Alliance (SMHA) invites its members and the community to ‘Demystifying The Health Care Maze’ panel event at Tri-County Health Department, 6162 S. Willow Drive, in Greenwood Village on Monday, March 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. This convening is a free community event with a panel discussion focused on how we can help our vulnerable population get the health care they need. Topics we’ll be discussing include:

  • What insurance options are available (including the health exchange, Medicaid, Medicare & CHP+)?
  • How easy is it to find a medical home (with or without insurance)?
  • When should the ER be used vs urgent care or a primary care provider?
  • How can we take a more active role in our health care?
  • What is a patient navigator and what role do they play?
  • What other assistance is available? If you are trying to help someone access the health care that they need, come to the discussion and ask your questions to our experts.

Light snacks and refreshments will be available. Registration is free and attendees can sign up at www.smhaco.org, or by calling Traci Jones at 303-793-9615 or e-mailing traci@smhaco.org.

SMHA is a network of dedicated health care providers and community-based organizations who serve the uninsured and underinsured in Arapahoe and Douglas counties (with the exception of Aurora), with a mission of uniting the community for better access to health care for all.
